Sexual indulgence and denial: variations on continence. New York, Arno Press, (OCoLC) Document Type: Book: All Authors / Contributors: Ezra H Heywood; John Humphrey Noyes; Alice B Stockham.   This book is a very interesting look at not just sexual mores of early Christians, but even more so the idea of how the physical body fit into creation. If you have never read a book about the history of the Christian church, first read a good history book, like "The History of the Christian Church," by Philip Schaff, or "2, Years of Christ /5.

The two final sections of the book are devoted to the aging female, observations based on a sample of 61 women aged 40 to 78 years, and to the aging male. St. Augustine speaks of his work On Continence in Ep. , Ad Darium Comitem. [See vol. 1. of this edition, p. — P.S.] Possidius, Ind.c. 10, mentions it, and it is cited in the Collectanea of Bede or Florus, and by Eugypius. Erasmus is therefore wrong in ascribing it to Hugo on the ground of the style, which is not unlike that of the earlier discourses.
